Seed Bank Germination Guarantees Compared (October 2026)

A guarantee is only as good as its fine print, and after December 11 it is also only as good as the mail. Here is what five seed banks actually promise.

Updated ·cbdandthc.com Editorial
Short answer Germination guarantees differ more than the marketing suggests. ILGM's lasts 12 months, Seed Supreme's 120 days and North Atlantic's 60. Crop King guarantees 80% germination if you follow its guidelines. Multiverse advertises a "100% germination guarantee," but its homepage doesn't state a claim window or conditions. Most require a specific germination method and proof. With high-THC seeds losing federal hemp status on December 11, 2026, also consider whether a replacement could even be shipped to you after that date.

The guarantees side by side

The December 11 problem with guarantees

A guarantee is a promise to send replacement seeds. After December 11, 2026, interstate shipping of high-THC seeds is expected to become federally illegal. Two practical consequences:

  • Test early. If you're buying before the deadline, germination-test a seed or two from each pack right away. That tells you whether a pack is bad, but it won't support a claim everywhere: North Atlantic and Crop King require attempting the whole pack, and Seed Supreme covers only the seeds in your claim. A failed pack found in February may not be replaceable by mail.
  • A long window helps less after the deadline. A 12-month guarantee covers you past December 11 on paper. After that date, mailing high-THC replacement seeds across state lines is expected to be federally illegal, whatever the policy says, so don't count on a replacement after December 11.

How to keep a claim valid

  1. Read the method rule first. Seed Supreme accepts only the paper-towel method, and ILGM requires its own methods. Using a different technique can void the claim.
  2. Document everything. Photograph every seed, with a dated newspaper or a phone showing the date if the policy asks for it. Keep your order email.
  3. Germinate the whole pack if required. North Atlantic requires an attempt on all seeds, and Crop King's reship applies only when all were attempted.
  4. Watch the clock. North Atlantic's 60 days runs from purchase, not delivery. Seed Supreme's 120 days runs from delivery.

The University of Illinois Extension paper towel test is a reliable way to check viability: damp paper towel, sealed bag, about 70°F, and check every couple of days. Our seed storage guide covers testing and storing.

Which matters most for you

  • Buying to store for later seasons: a long claim window (ILGM's 12 months) matters most, but test early anyway.
  • Planting right away: any of these works. Focus on genetics and the method rules.
  • In a state on North Atlantic's no-replacement list: none of those 22 states allow adult-use (recreational) home growing, and most don't allow home growing even for patients. If you live in one, a guarantee from any seed bank doesn't change state law, so don't buy seeds to grow there.
  • Before ordering anywhere, confirm home growing is legal in your state. Our buying checklist lists every adult-use state's limits.

Frequently asked questions

Which seed bank has the best germination guarantee?

ILGM's 12 months from purchase is the longest claim window stated by the five we compared, as of October 18, 2026 (Multiverse and Crop King don't state one on their homepages). Seed Supreme offers 120 days from delivery and North Atlantic 60 days from purchase. Conditions matter as much as length.

Do germination guarantees still work after December 11, 2026?

The policies may still exist, but interstate shipping of high-THC seeds is expected to become federally illegal after December 11, which could prevent replacement shipments. Test seeds as soon as they arrive.

What voids a germination guarantee?

Common reasons are using a germination method the company doesn't accept, missing the claim window, lacking photo proof, or not attempting the whole pack when the policy requires it.

Does North Atlantic Seed replace seeds in every state?

No. Its policy lists 22 states where it doesn't offer replacements, including Florida, Texas, Pennsylvania and North Carolina.
